Marie Endres (1904-1999) was a Madison-based violinist, music teacher and conductor.
Marie's father was a music teacher and organist, and Marie learned to play at a young age
with her sisters Olive and Emma. She studied at the American Conservatory in Chicago and the
Julliard School in New York. Endres taught violin at the Madison School of Music and at
Milton College. She performed and conducted in a number of musical groups in Madison and
Beaver Dam, including the Madison Civic Symphony, the Madison String Sinfonia and the
Baroque Chorus of Madison. She was also director of the St. James Catholic Church Choir. Her
concerts often included performances of works composed by her sister, Olive Endres.
Marie Endres collected many honors over the length of her career, including an honorary
doctorate of music from Milton College in 1965 and a Governor's Award for "distinguised
servince and performance in the arts" in 1970.
