Lambda Phi Chi began in 1903 as Thalia, a college women's literary society at the Milwaukee
State Normal School. Circa 1932, the group officially became Lambda Phi Chi, a sorority.
Lambda Phi Chi Alumnæ was formally incorporated in 1935 to "promote and sustain
college friendships." As each cohort of sorority members graduated, they formed a new
chapter within the alumni sorority association, represented by a Greek letter. The alumnae
group continued to plan events and reunions through 1985. In later years the group referred
to itself as Lambda Phi Chi Alumni Corporation or Lambda Phi Chi Alumni.
Lambda Phi Chi affiliated in 1959 with the national sorority Gamma Phi Beta, which operates
at UW-Milwaukee as of 2009.
