Russell H. Bartley Papers, 1974-1992

Biography/History

Russell Bartley was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey in 1939. He received his B.A. from Colgate University in 1961, a M.A. from Middlebury College Graduate Language Schools in 1962, a second M.A. from Stanford in 1965, and his Ph.D. from Stanford in 1971. Bartley joined the UWM Department of History in 1969 as an instructor. He became an assistant professor in 1971, and was later promoted to associate professor. Bartley remained with the UWM Department of History until 1996, and specialized in Latin American and Eastern European history. He also served on the advisory council for UWM's Spanish Speaking Outreach Institute, and contributed to the programs and development of UWM's Center for Latin America.
