Subgrp: 5. Council Records and Member Files,
1935-1992Physical CollectionCouncil consists of the president, vice-president, treasurer and nine councilors
elected at-large by the Society. The files in this record subgroup were created by
persons serving as elected Council members. Records vary among Council members, but
generally include correspondence, meeting materials including referenced documents
and minutes, and records regarding Council's interaction with SAA committees,
sections, and roundtables. The majority of records in this subgroup--those processed
after SAA's donation of its archives to UW-Milwaukee in April 2001--include only
those compiled and created by members during their official terms of Council
service.
This series also includes official pronouncements of the organization approved by
the Council and promulgated publicly. SAA Council meeting agendas and minutes,
including reports from appointed committees, component groups, working groups, and
individual officers. Various iterations of SAA's strategic plan, including Vision
and Mission Statements, Core Organizational Values, Goals, Strategies, and Key
Performance Indicators. SAA's Governance Manual that describes the organization's
structure, officers, component groups, awards program, and student chapters. And
leadership resources and policies developed by SAA to assist leaders of sections,
roundtables, committees, and other component groups with leadership policies and
best practices.
