Scope and Content Note

The Block Club files (1990-1994) document the development of the block club movement in the West End area. These clubs began organizing in 1990 in order to combat the city's growing crime rate and have been actively involved in closing drug houses, along with promoting and protecting the quality of life within the block and the community.

The Board of Directors files (1976-1994) provide a summary of many aspects of the West End Community Association's involvement in community projects and development. The records outline the West End Community Association's mission statement, activities, goals, and contain information on various committees within the organization.

The Landlord Compact files (1990-1994) provide meeting minutes and correspondence on the West End Community Association's attempts to work with area landlords in promoting more desirable housing in the West End area.

The Residents Against Prostitution files (1985, 1988-1994) contain records of an issue's group formed to combat prostitution and its related activities. The files contain correspondence, meeting minutes, and various petitions that were circulated to West End residents.

The 27th Street International Festival files (1991-1992) contain records of a community fair held to promote the cultural diversity of the West End. The files contain correspondence, meeting minutes, and various listings of the participants in the festival.

The West End Community Association Newsletters (1990-1996) contain considerable information about the activities of the West End Community Association, along with various articles about area residents.

The West End Festival files (1983-1993) document the planning, organization, and events of the local festival put on annually by the West End Community Association. The files consist primarily of correspondence, expense and funding reports, and flyers documenting festival activities.
