Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee Records, 1975-1996

Biography/History

The Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee began when a group a people met to discuss their concerns about hunger and children in Milwaukee. In 1970, this group organized as Citizens for a Central City School Breakfast Program, which sought to work with the community and the Milwaukee Public Schools to establish a pilot school breakfast program. The group incorporated in 1974 under its current name, Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee, and hired staff to administer its programs. It receives funding from many sources, including charitable foundations, corporations, and individuals. The Task Force is currently run by a Board of Directors from which an Executive Committee and Board Committees are derived. The Board is comprised of twenty-one members elected for a three year term. Heading the staff is the Executive Director who oversees the work of the Advocacy, Finance, Food Program, and Resource and Fund Development Directors.
