Scope and Content Note: This series consists of files describing the activities of individual centers under the jurisdiction of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. All of these centers maintained their own administrative staff and undertook activities focusing on a particular sort of research. Documents included in these files include program planning documents, reports, grant applications, grant award notices, committee minutes, correspondence, and personnel information.
Access Restrictions: Series 1 was minimally processed and as such may contain restricted information, such as personnel action notices or social security numbers on grant applications. Boxes 1-3 in particular have been identified as containing restricted information. See an archivist to use this portion of the collection.

Scope and Content Note: Series 2 consists of files documenting two programs administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs: the Extramural Support Information Center (ESIC) and the JASON Project. Both of these programs were administered directly by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and maintained no official affiliation with any UWM Research Center.

The Extramural Support Information Center was part of a UW-System-wide initiative to provide faculty and other researchers with the resources needed to identify, locate, and properly apply for external grant funding. The collection includes ESIC annual reports, workshop agendas and attendee lists, correspondence, and monthly information packets informing the campus community of ESIC activities and newly-announced grant opportunities.

The JASON project was the UW-Milwaukee affiliate of the national JASON Foundation for Education, a non-profit subsidiary of the National Geographic Society founded in 1989. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs administered the program for the greater Milwaukee area, helping UW-Milwaukee faculty and staff integrate their research interests into science education for local students in grades 5-8. The files include planning documents, correspondence, annual reports, budgets, and information regarding special programs, including the Argonauts' Ball and the Passport to Discovery program. Gifts, Grants, and Contracts Accepted by the Board of Regents are also included in this series.
