The office was created in 1968 when the campus was given authority to sign grant proposals.
It was part of Administrative Affairs and was called Gifts, Grants, and Contracts. In 1977,
the office moved to the Graduate School and was renamed Grants and Contracts. In the early
1980s the office name was changed to Research and Sponsored Programs. In 1996, the name was
changed again to Research Services and Administration. In 2009, the name once again changed
to the Office of Sponsored Programs.
