Biography/History
The Department of Music began in 1914, and operated continuously through the State Normal
School and the State Teachers' College, the predecessor institutions of UWM. From the time
UWM was established in 1956 until 1962, the Department of Music reported to the College of
Letters & Science. The department then reported to the newly created School of Fine
Arts beginning in 1962.
