The collection documents the teaching and research activities of the College of Engineering
and Applied Science, its five departments, and the Centers and Institutes it oversees,
including the Center for Urban Transportation Studies and the Laboratory for Surface
Studies.
The records date from 1947, when the college was a department of UW-Extension. The majority
of the collection consists of subject files, describing projects and initiatives undertaken
by the College, including the annual Rube Goldberg invention competition (1998-2004),
partnerships with local business such as Allen-Bradley and General Motors, and information
on the Gateway to Engineering, Science, and Technology (GEST) program.
Also included are general administrative files of the College, including departmental and
executive committee meeting minutes, accreditation reports, annual budgets, 5-year reviews
and planning documents, and publications produced by the College. Finally, there are a
number of photographs of people and events in the school, mostly faculty portraits but also
documenting the college's rotating exhibits on the first floor of the Engineering building
and the 2001 Future City project.
