The Division of Engineering was established at UWM's creation in 1956, but was renamed the
College of Engineering the following year. The UW Board of Regents formed the College of
Applied Science and Engineering on 1 October 1964, requesting that a new modern program be
developed to complement, rather than duplicate the existing Madison program. On 4 February
1966, the UW Board of Regents moved that the departmental structure of the College of
Applied Science and Engineering at UWM be abolished, and effective 1 July 1966, and replaced
by six departments: Electrical, Energetics, Industrial, Materials, Mechanical Design, and
Mechanics.
Between 1972 and 1973, the name of the college changed from the College of Applied Science
and Engineering (CASE) to the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS). At the
present time, the College is organized into the five traditional departments of Civil
Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Industrial and Manufacturing
Engineering, Materials, and Mechanical Engineering.
