The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was created in 1956 following the merger of the
University of Wisconsin's Milwaukee Center and the Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee. The
College of Letters & Science was established at the time of merger. Joseph G. Baier was
named dean, and he served until 1966.
Histories of the college can be found in The First Ten Years
and Forum 1977. Both are available in the collection and in
the UWM Libraries.
