Papers of the Special Committee to Investigate Allegations of Racial Discrimination at UW-L of
1982-1983 consist of materials relating to the development of the 1983 report that responds to these
allegations and proposes recommendations for the improvement of race relations on campus. Materials
include correspondence between members of the faculty, administration, present and former student
population, and on campus organizations, personal testimonies from administration, faculty, and students
regarding the issues of racism on campus, meeting minutes for the Minority Affairs committee, the Special
Committee to Investigate Allegations of Racial Discrimination at UW-L of 1982-1983, and the Institute for
Minority Studies, and reports from the Special Committee to Investigate Allegations of Racial Discrimination
at UW-L of 1982-1983, the Dean of Student Affairs, the University Minority Program Discussion Group, and the
Office of Education Civil Rights Division Investigation. Also included are newspaper clippings from 1982 and
1983 that document the controversy on campus.
