These photos are of an area of Milwaukee that was once known as the Fifth Ward. This
area is now known as the Walker’s Point Neighborhood, after the settlement by the
same name that was founded by George H. Walker in 1835. George Walker is now known
as one of Milwaukee’s three founding fathers. The photos are of mainly commercial
properties and residences on South 5th Street, from West Florida Street to West
Washington Street; South 4th Street, from West Florida Street to West National
Avenue; West Florida Street, from South 3rd Street to West Nicholas Street; and a
few buildings on South 3rd Street near its intersection with West Florida Street.
There are some photos of churches and schools as well. The photos are in black and
white and were taken using Kodak 110 film. According to the donor, the photos were
taken in the mid-1970s.
