Riverview Album, circa 1906

Scope and Content Note

The album consists of 18 black and white photographs that are 9¾” x 8” in dimension. It is entitled "Summer Scenes at Riverview on the Milwaukee River Half Mile North of Lindwurm Park." The photos mainly depict the summer cottages of a number of prominent Milwaukee families. The cottages are on what is now the southern border of Glendale. The street identified as “Messmer Lane” is now known as Riverview Drive. At the time of the photographs much of this area was rural. Also included are a number of photos of the landscape, the Milwaukee River, and some of the summer activities that these families indulged in, including swimming, canoeing, and boating.
