August Riemenschneider Negatives Collection, circa 1911

Scope and Content Note

The August Riemenschneider Negatives Collection contains 242 glass plate negatives of varying sizes that date to circa 1911. The negatives depict images of over thirty Milwaukee Fire Department stations, as well as fireboats, horse and buggies, insurance patrols, and firefighters. The majority of the negatives portray the employees of the fire department being professionally photographed as a group in front of their respective stations. Significant members of the Milwaukee Fire Department are also illustrated throughout the collection and include Chief Thomas A. Clancy, District Chief Henry Kruse, and District Chief Lucas A. Van Toor.
