Biography/History

August Emil Riemenschneider (1886-1969) was born in Milwaukee and worked as a miner and later bridge tender for the Department of Public Works in the City of Milwaukee. Riemenschneider was also a member of the Knights' of Pythias. He married Clara Cichaki in 1919 and they had two sons together. In 1964, Riemenschneider moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he later died. In his spare time, Riemenschneider was an amateur photographer, and well-known for photographing the city of Milwaukee, its people, and events through the first half of the 20th century, with many of his photos appearing in the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel.
