Biography/History

The VJ Day Celebration was an annual affair for many years. In 1951, it was the sixth annual celebration of the Allied victory over Japan to end World War II. This particular celebration took place on August 12, 1951 and ran from 2pm until 5:30pm. The festivities included more than 100 performers. By the Milwaukee Journal’s count, 11,000 people attended the celebration. It was sponsored by The Allied Veterans Council and produced by Burmek Theatrical Productions.
