The portraits in this collection came from various sources through the years. Many,
though not all, of the images are of local individuals with some modest level of
prominence. The photos are primarily of local politicians, business owners, and
celebrities. There are also some images of ordinary citizens of Milwaukee. Also
included in the collection are images of individuals with a more regional or
national level of celebrity who visited Milwaukee. These portraits include many
presidents, national politicians, as well as well-known entertainers and even
animals. Milwaukee Public Library collected these portraits and put them into one
collection.
