Acquisition Information

The materials were donated initially by Frank Zeidler and later by his daughters: Anita Zeidler and Jeannette Zeidler Crapol at various dates up through 2019. A few other items were donated separately as well. See the case file for details. The collection was accessioned as Local History Manuscripts.

Processing Information

Processed by Thomas M. Reilly, Project Archivist, 1983. Updated by Gayle Ecklund, Archives Technician, 2008 and 2013. In 2018, Bob Jaeger removed the Carl Zeidler Papers from this collection and placed them into City Archives as CMAC 44. Frank Zeidler’s mayoral papers were also removed and placed into City Archives as CMAC 48. The boxes were then renumbered. The SS LaSalle research materials were added as well.

From 2019-2021, Casey Lapworth reprocessed and reorganized the entire collection. This was a result of some new materials obtained in 2019 (donated by Jeannette Zeidler) and several hundred previously received unprocessed boxes (donated from roughly 1983 to 2015 by Frank Zeidler and later Anita Zeidler). The unprocessed materials, along with previously processed materials were then appraised/reappraised and the entire collection reorganized and processed. During this time, some previously processed materials were deaccessioned after they were determined to be out of scope.
