The International Institute of Milwaukee County (IIMC) was founded in 1923 as part of
the YWCA to provide support for newly-arrived immigrants in the Milwaukee area. It
became a separate organization and incorporated in 1936. The IIMC provided
naturalization and immigration services as well as counseling services. In 1943 they
began putting on the Holiday Folk Fair, a popular multi-ethnic festival in
Milwaukee. They moved out of their old offices into a new facility in 1965. They
changed their name to the International Institute of Wisconsin in 1985 and are still
active today.
