The Safety Commission advised the City on methods of providing safety to both the
public and City employees. It helped create policies to reduce accidental death and
injury with promotional programs aimed at schools, industry, City employees, as well
as the general public. It was created by the Common Council in 1921 and its first
chairman was H. E. Bradley. In 2017, the Milwaukee Safety and Civic Commission
replaced the Safety Commission. The commission is comprised of 18 citizen members, 3
appointed by the mayor and 1 by each alderman, for three year terms.
