This collection contains records on the transfer of human remains at the Fairview
Mausoleum by the City of Milwaukee Department of City Development (DCD). Contents
include crypt/niche inventory, updated record of identity, newly identified deceased
report sheets, and photographs and negatives of coffins, urns, shutters, and
miscellaneous interior views. Paperwork includes: name of deceased, description of
coffin or urn, condition, and notes relating to items of clothing or jewelry exposed
by the exhumation process. See the appendix below for an index of the names of all
the individuals and the location of their corresponding photographs and reports. If
the paperwork lists a nickname, this has been noted in the index as well.
Various reports, correspondence, descriptions, and overviews of the transfer and
re-interment project from the DCD are also present. Some of these folders contain
planning materials, indexes of deceased, legal documents, and updates on the
progress. There are also a few miscellaneous permits for burial and entombment and
other related documents, as well as a single ledger from the Fairview Mausoleum.
These items were most likely recovered during the re-interment process. The ledger
primarily deals with financial accounts for the Mausoleum, such as maintenance,
salaries, and crypt accounts for the people interred there.
