Mary Anne McNulty was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Milwaukee in 1969. Soon
afterword she began working for the Inner City Redevelopment Project. She ran and
lost bids for the Common Council in 1972 and 1973, finally winning a special
election in 1983. She won re-election in 1984 and 1988. McNulty decided not to run
for re-election in 1992. During her time as Alderwoman she worked extensively with
the Community Development Block Grant Program, the Licensing Division on liquor and
tavern license issues, and as Chairwoman of the Ambulance Service Board, among other
causes. After her time in office she worked as Director of the South Side Housing
Center, which was an agency that offered help for the poor in her neighborhood, as
well as a stint working for Milwaukee Housing Authority. In 2009, McNulty passed
away after a fight with cancer. The Wisconsin state senate recognized her for her
life of public service in Joint Resolution 64.
