This collection is comprised of Village Board (became Common Council in 1918) records
for the entire Village period. These include minutes of Board proceedings,
organizational papers and a small volume of court and election records. The
collection also contains volumes from various departments. The City Clerk Special
Improvement Bonds contains cancelled bonds and bearer coupons for special
improvements in three areas: Sewer, Water and Street Improvements; listed in
numerical order within each series. Bonds were issued from 1926 to 1928 and coupons
were redeemable from 1927 to 1934.
The Assessor’s Blotter of Real Estate Assessments is listed by ward. Information
provided includes name of owner, legal description of real estate, information on
improvements and sales, and assessment amount for real estate and improvements. The
Commission on Streets and Lights, Bond and Coupon Record is primarily a special
assessment list, which is divided into four sections: sidewalk assessment, sewer
assessment, water assessment, and paving assessment. Information provided includes
bond number, property description including lot and block (no address), total amount
chargeable to property and installments.
The Soldiers and Sailors Welfare volume contains historical information, such as
name, rank, occupation, etc. for 35 Milwaukee area soldiers during World War I who
were discharged from the U.S. Army between 1918-1919. This volume has been
transcribed. The Police Court Docket book concerns municipal violations. Plaintiff
in all cases is the Village of North Milwaukee. There is an alphabetical index to
defendants in the front of each volume. Volume 41 has only a partial index.
The volumes from the Treasurer include a General Ledger, six volumes of General
Receipts in chronological order from October 1927 to December 1928, as well as
volumes of Cash Receipts, Cash Disbursements, and Special Sewer Assessments. The
Treasurer’s Account Book lists debits on one page and credits on the opposite page
for the general fund from March 16, 1915 to June 1, 1918. The Outstanding Delinquent
Special Assessments lists special taxes on real estate returned delinquent.

estate, and amount of original tax. No names are provided in Volume 56. Volumes 57
and 58 list the name of the person taxed, legal description of real estate, and
delinquent amounts.
