Historical Note

The Community Improvement Committe started in La Crosse in 1963 as the Citizen's Particiatpiton Committee, and remained active through at least 1968. The committe met primarily in the La Crosse City Hall. The meetings focused on a variety of issuses related to the development of La Crosse, such as expansion of public or private buildings, housing and transportation issuses, and the beautification of La Crosse. The Committee's fuctions were to learn about development problems in the community, help let the public know of building projects going on, and make recommendation for improvement of La Crosse to the City Council. The committee brought in guest speakers to the meetings who suggested projects or brought up concerns within the community. They committee would review these projects or issuses before bringing them to the Common Council for approval or funding.
