Valders Canning Company	Title: Valders Canning Company, 1913-1964 Quantity: 1.6 c.f. (4 archives boxes) and 28 photographs Call Number: Green Bay Mss 48 Abstract: Records of one of the largest companies in Wisconsin that packed only peas. Founded by William F. Christel and others, the company packed six brands of peas in its plants in Valders, Hilbert, and St. Nazianz. The company was liquidated in 1963. The collection contains administrative and legal records, and extensive files of financial records.
Valeriani, Richard G., 1932-	Title: Richard G. Valeriani Papers, 1961-1983 Quantity: 5.6 c.f. (14 archives boxes) and 1 tape recording Call Number: Mss 670; Tape 1130A Abstract: Papers of an NBC News broadcaster best known for his coverage of the State Department and the White House. The collection primarily consists of radio and television news scripts, subject files, and research material and drafts relating to Valeriani's book on Henry Kissinger, Travels With Henry (1979). In addition to documentation of his work at the White House and the State Department, the radio and television news scripts cover the full range of Valeriani's reporting career including assignments in Cuba, Central America, and the South (covering the civil rights movement) for Emphasis, NBC Nightly News, and Today, and his work as Washington, D.C. anchor for the Today show. Subject files include copies of Valeriani's articles about Kissinger, interviews (including one with Paul Newman), a tape recording of Valeriani and Kissinger at a State Department Correspondents Association meeting, and numerous narrative expenditure statements.

Van Antwerp, Fidelia, 1881-1956	Title: Fidelia Van Antwerp Papers, 1945-1958 Quantity: 3.0 c.f. (7 archives boxes and 1 card box) and 15 photographs (1 folder) Call Number: Wis Mss QW; PH 1629 Abstract: Papers documenting the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association (formerly the Wisconsin Rural Writers' Association) and the Badger Folklore Society, consisting of stories, poems, notes, photographs, and correspondence concerning Wisconsin folklore and legends, kept by Fidelia Van Antwerp, first president of the association. A large group of letters concerns plans for a book on Wisconsin folklore pertaining to trees by the Wisconsin Idea Theatre. A Wisconsin place-names collection, compiled by Mrs. Helen C. Smith, relates the origins of the names and brief histories of present towns and villages in the state. Photographs include images of various unidentified landscapes and activities perhaps assembled circa 1950 for use in the publication Songs of the Winter Wilderness.
Van Ells, Mark D.	Title: Mark D. Van Ells Papers and Photographs, Quantity: 1.6 linear ft. (3 archives boxes and 1 flat box) of papers, 0.1 linear ft. (5 folders and 1 oversize folder) of photographs, 0.1 linear ft. (3 folders) of paper prints. Call Number: WVM Mss 46 Abstract: Papers and photographs of Mark D. Van Ells, a member of the Air Force during the 1980s and an historian who worked at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum during the 1990s. The collection contains materials that document Van Ells' researching and writing of a history of the Wisconsin County Veterans Service Officers (CVSO). Correspondence relating to the project, questionnaires filled out by current and retired CVSOs, the written history, and several conference papers provide substantial information about the organization. Other writing projects in the series include an examination of Wisconsin German-Americans prior to World War II. Another large portion of this series consists of flyers, handbills, and posters that Van Ells collected in Madison, Wisconsin during the 1990s. The majority deal with the Persian Gulf War, 1990-1991. These flyers present the alternate view of a relatively popular war. Other flyers relate to American operations in Somalia, Haiti, and Bosnia. Materials from Van Ells' time in the Air Force include his enlistment and discharge papers, certificates, and some letters he wrote to his family. There are also several emails Van Ells exchanged with friends and students regarding their reactions to the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Photographs contain several shots of Van Ells in Air Force uniform, both alone and in groups. There are also three photographs of the Madison 'Salute to the Troops' parade, held on July 6, 1991, that show protesters holding signs in the background.
Van Gorden family	Title: Van Gorden Family Papers : transcriptions and copies, 1940-1945 Quantity: 0.2 cubic feet (1 half-archives box) Call Number: Eau Claire Mss CE Abstract: Transcriptions completed by Cyrena Dierauer of her grandfather's diary (1940-1945) and her father's World War II letters home. Harry Van Gorden kept the diary while living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he operated a gasoline supply business and several gas stations. His diary entries reflect family life of the times, the gasoline business during World War II, and his interest in news events of the day. The letters are from his son, Archie “Red” Van Gorden, written while serving with the 32nd Division between July 1941 and December 1943 in Australia and New Guinea. Dierauer compiled the letters into a volume entitled “Red Arrow 'Red' Letters Home from WW2” with a brief family history, transcriber's notes photocopies of family photographs, a few newsclippings, and an index to names mentioned in the letters.

The papers include correspondence related to Van Horne's service as chair of the Afro-American Studies and Africology programs, as well as materials related to Van Horne's involvement in the Community Brainstorming Conference. A large portion of the collection is devoted to manuscripts of a selection of Van Horne's publications.

Also included are miscellaneous papers, 1855-1895, 1961, 1964, concerning Van Loon, his family, and the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam, La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

(2 archives boxes) Call Number: Oshkosh Mss AY Abstract: Papers of Van Ostrand, of Neenah and Antigo, Wisconsin, a dealer in timber lands in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Idaho. Included is business correspondence, 1899-1901, 1909-1911; family letters; genealogical notes on the families of Chapman, Culver, and Van Ostrand; agreements and deeds; and two diaries by William L. Culver, Mrs. Van Ostrand's grandfather, kept in Connecticut in 1881 and in Portage, Wis., in 1884.
van Steenwyk family	Title: Van Steenwyk Family Papers Physical Description: 6.0 cubic feet Call Number: MSS G Abstract: Papers of an early La Crosse, Wisconsin, banker and mayor, and of his family. Gysbert van Steenwyk, Sr. (1814-1902), who founded the Batavian Bank in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and was active in state and local politics. Van Steenwyk, a Dutch immigrant, served a term in 1873 as mayor of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and also served in the Wisconsin state legislature as assemblyman in 1859 and senator 1879-1880. Other family members represented in the collection include Mariette Nichols van Steenwyk, their son, Gysbert van Steenwyk, Jr., banker and businessman of La Crosse, Wisconsin; the son's wife Grace Pettinhill Hogan van Steenwyk; and Ella May van Steenwyk Cassels, daughter of Gysbert Sr. and Mariette van Steenwyk. The collection includes personal and business correspondence together with business and organization financial records, legal documents and genealogical information, papers and records relating to the estate of Cadwallader C. Washburn and miscellaneous materials. Among the business interests of his son Gysbert van Steenwyk, Jr., were the La Crosse Trust Co., Machine Products Co., La Crosse Rubber Mills, and La Crosse Floral Co. Apart from their business activities, the van Steenwyks were involved with the La Crosse Theater Co., and the Home for the Friendless. Some materials are in the Dutch language.

Vanderbosch, Jane	Title: Jane Vanderbosch papers Quantity: 0.19 cubic feet 1 letter document box Call Number: Accession 2016/341 Abstract: Jane Vanderbosch was born August 4, 1944. She wrote novels and poetry and served as the director of The United, a gay rights organization now known as OutReach LGBT Community Center, in Madison, Wisconsin. Her papers contain an essay called "Notes from the Working Class," a packet of her poetry, and a manuscript for a novel called The Rough Seas of Drogheda. It also includes a letter about the circumstances of her resignation from The United, as well as correspondence with her friend and caregiver, Harriet Forman.

In 1950, it affiliated with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). The collection is composed of correspondence, minutes of the central organization and several committees, affidavits of black workers, leaque publications, and reports relating to race relations, housing, and labor.

Call Number: WVM Mss 2083 Abstract: Collection consists of posters relating to the war effort of the United States during World War I. Included are posters printed by the United States government, foreign governments, and private charitable organizations such as the Red Cross and the YMCA. Topics include social and economic issues, recruitment, and war relief campaigns. There are several posters that were printed only in Wisconsin. The numbers of these posters are: 3535, 3586, 3590, 3591, 3592, 3605, 3616, 3858, 4009, and 4010.
Varjian, Leon	Title: Leon Varjian papers Quantity: 9.23 cubic feet 2 record cartons, 2 letter document boxes, 6 oversize boxes Call Number: uac13 Abstract: Leon Varjian was a University of Wisconsin – Madison graduate student who served as Vice President of the Wisconsin Student Association and was a member of the Pail and Shovel Party during the late 1970s and early 1980s. This collection consists of artifacts, fliers, photographs, postcards, typed and written articles, hand-crafted posters, newspapers, correspondence, and paper documentation. The bulk of the collection includes fliers related to Wisconsin Student Association events, Pail and Shovel election materials, newspapers, articles, the Verne and Evelyn show, Wisconsin Student Association notes and minutes, papers relating to the Community Television Council, Pail and Shovel created newspapers as well as events including the Boom Box Parade, Kazoo Koncert, and the statue of Liberty on Lake Mendota prank. Other material within the collection include personal correspondence with Varjian, material in his education, and his involvement in the Madison community.

(35 archives boxes), 22 reels of microfilm (35 mm), 1069 photographs, 3922 negatives, and 9 drawings Call Number: Stout Mss 16; Stout Micro 6; Micro 1188; PH 3902; PH 3903; PH 3920 Abstract: Papers of Howard Ridgeway Vaughn, a pastor for the Home Missionary Society, Congregational minister, and religious educator of northwestern Wisconsin, and his family. The papers consist primarily of the papers, sermons, and speeches of the Reverend Howard Vaughn, founder of the religious day school movement; family and professional correspondence; and the papers and writings of Myra Vaughn, daughter of Howard Vaughn, including a biography of her father and a history of the religious day school movement. There are also early records of associations formed to promote the religious day school movement, and documentation of the curricula and course materials used in the religious instruction. The correspondence documents the daily life of the family of a home missionary and minister, and is especially complete for Myra Vaughn. In addition, there is documentation of Myra Vaughn's teaching career at the high school on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, Minnesota.
