Abstract: Records of the Emergency Committee to Defend Human and Legal Rights of Political Prisoners, a support group for the Resistance Conspiracy Six (Alan Berkman, Tim Blunk, Marilyn Buck, Linda Evans, Susan Rosenberg, and Laura Whitehorn), all long-time political activists who were charged with conspiracy in connection with the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Capitol, a protest against the invasion of Grenada. Although the government admitted it had no evidence linking these specific people to the bombing, the six were convicted and sentenced to prison terms. The records document the Resistance Conspiracy case, the legal tactics used by the prosecution, the individuals involved and their philosophy, and the revolutionary network, especially the women’s and radical lesbian component of it. Included is correspondence, position papers, statements, flyers, programs, photographs, posters, original artwork, stickers, press kits, clippings, petitions, interviews with the six, and statements by other political prisoners.

Abstract: The collection consists of manuscript copies of four novels written by University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee faculty member Donald Emerson from 1962 to 1981. Each work is represented by multiple drafts, as well as research notes documenting Emerson's creative process.

Abstract: Brief papers of Emerson, a New York banker and philanthropist, primarily documenting his public relations activities in support of Theodore Roosevelt's Non-Partisan League Presidential campaign in 1916 and his work as secretary of the Emergency Employment Relief Committee of New York City in 1930-1931, and other civic interests. Included are correspondence with Theodore Roosevelt and others, clippings, press releases, and literature. Also included is a transcript of congressional testimony concerning his fundraising in behalf of Calvin Coolidge in 1924. In addition there are publicity materials about the 1922 convention of the American Bankers Association; the Association of Reserve City Bankers of which he was president, 1930-1931; the World War I Liberty Loan campaign of which he was the secretary; and the American Red Cross, 1948-1950. A small amount of material touches on Emerson's activities as a trustee of the Kress Foundation. His interest in conservation is documented by an account of a 1936 birding expedition in California with Roger Tory Peterson. A small number of photographs relate to the Roosevelt Non-Partisan League. Additional photographs bound with the papers document the Emergency Unemployment Committee.

Abstract: Percival R. Emmert, before owning his own accounting firm called Emmert Tax and Accounting Service, was division chief of the U.S. Revenue Office in La Crosse, Wis. The collection includes a scattering of audits performed by the Emmert Tax and Accounting Service of La Crosse, Wisconsin, from 1922-1928, and 1934. Most of the audits are for the City of La Crosse government and schools.

Abstract: Business and personal correspondence of Emmons, a Milwaukee attorney and railroad executive, including correspondence relating to Indian claims at Mackinac, Michigan; letters from New York investor Russell Sage about his Wisconsin business affairs; and several Civil War letters. Also present is correspondence of Emmons' brother-in-law, Robert Eliot, concerning family matters; an 1852 letter from Ralph Waldo Emerson to Theodore Parker concerning the inscription on the Concord bridge; an 1854 letter of appointment to the rank of lieutenant from Commander Matthew C. Perry to Garret V. Denniston; and an account book, 1855-1858, from Eliot's business as an iron and produce commission merchant.

Abstract: Correspondence of Roy A. Empey, a locomotive engineer who was an official of and lobbyist for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen, and director of the United States Employment Service in Wisconsin from 1931 to 1933. The collection contains material on all facets of Empey's public career. Numerous letters deal with his political interests: his support of the La Follettes, his work as campaign manager for Wisconsin attorney general John M. Reynolds, 1928-1932, and cooperation between trade unions and the Progressive Party. Other papers pertain to his participation in John Hickey Lodge No. 266 of the Railroad Brotherhood at Green Bay and to his activities as a lobbyist at Madison. Correspondence concerning union grievances is scattered throughout the collection. The papers from 1931-1933 deal primarily with the work of the United States Employment Service. Also included are letters with information on technical aspects of railroading and on Empey's career with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Correspondents include John J. Blaine, John M. Reynolds, Robert M. La Follette, Jr., Philip F. La Follette, Solomon Levitan, Joseph D. Beck, William Evjue, Orland S. Loomis, and Daniel W. Hoan.

Abstract: Eighty 35 mm feature films from the Empire Theatre, located on 42nd Street in Manhattan, New York City, from 1912 (as the Eltinge 42nd Street Theatre) until 1998 when it was lifted off its foundation and moved 170 feet westward to form part of the facade of the AMC Empire 25. This collection of films was found in the theater's basement prior to its move/demolition, and the titles are representative of the theater's grindhouse programming of the late 1960s to the mid-1980s. A majority of titles are Kung Fu films, with a few additional genre films ranging from blaxploitation titles to women's prison films.

Abstract: Records of Employment Options in Madison, Wisconsin, a self-help career development service for low-income women with little or no technical or vocational training, originally founded in 1975 under the name Skilled Jobs for Women. The records document its role as the first agency in the Midwest to help women secure and retain non-traditional employment and the first in Wisconsin to offer programming for displaced homemakers.
