Abstract:
Papers and photographs of Duke E. Jones, an officer with the Army and Army Reserves who served overseas in both World Wars and Korea and worked in military education between wars. The papers include mostly correspondence and military papers, which cover both his service and his involvement in veterans' organizations. The correspondence includes V-mails from soldiers in World War II and thank-you notes from Korean soldiers, as well as letters exchanged with fellow veterans after his retirement. The military papers fill in the details of his thirty-seven year military career, describing promotions, awards, and movements. Three autograph books contain well wishes from hundreds of men and women that he met in the service. Programs and mailings document his involvement in veterans' organizations, especially the Reserve Officers Association (ROA). Photographs also cover both military and veteran activities. Many photographs are from Korea, where Jones served as the commanding officer of a prisoner of war camp and headquarters commandant for the Eighth U.S. Army, Korea (EUSAK). These photos show an officer's view of the conflict featuring formal dinners and ceremonies. Group shots show several military units with which Jones served and photographs from the reunions of several different veterans' organizations, particularly the ROA, depict retired soldiers fraternizing.
