Abstract:
Papers and photographs of Bernard E. Weigel, a radio operator-gunner in the 466th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force, who flew thirty-four missions over Europe during World War II.

His military papers contain a large number of orders from the various military groups that he served in, flight records that document his missions in Europe, as well as his official separation records from the military. His personal papers include letters that he wrote home during the war, in which he describes his experiences at stateside camps as well as at Attelbridge, his base in England. There are also many newspaper and magazine clippings relating to his service on which Weigel has written short descriptions. The photographs document both the stateside and overseas portions of Weigel's military service, including many shots of his training at Camp Livingston, Louisiana while he was still a member of the 32nd Division. There are also five shots from his mission to deliver fuel to General George S. Patton's army in France. This collection also contains portrait photos of Weigel, pictures of his World War II crew, and shots of Weigel revisiting some of his bases in the second half of the century.
