Abstract:
Papers and scrapbooks pertaining to the life and career of W.H. Upham, the seventeenth governor of Wisconsin, 1895-1897. The scrapbooks contain original letters, clippings, and memorabilia focusing on Upham's experiences as a soldier in the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War (including reminiscences of Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln), highlights of his lumber business in Marshfield, Wisconsin, and his role as governor. Also included are photographs and lithographs and a pen and ink cartoon depicting Upham and other gubernatorial candidates in 1894.
