Estelle Hayden Papers, 1855-1948

Scope and Content Note

Correspondence in this collection dates from 1855 to 1948 and includes family correspondence. There are five Civil War letters, 1861-1862, written by William Hayden from army camps, describing camp life, sickness, court martials, and marches. A group of twelve letters, June through October, 1904, by Ada Bird to her mother, tells of her trip through Europe. The remaining letters are communications of Estelle Hayden with residents and former residents of Sun Prairie and with Wisconsin editors about gathering or publishing material on the history of Sun Prairie.

Two folders of articles and notes, 1901-1948, describe the early history of the village of Sun Prairie, the village site, buildings, pioneer residents, and growth of the community.
