Abstract:
Interviews conducted for the Illinois Labor History Society with seven former officials of the United Packinghouse Workers of America concerning the history of the union, 1933-1981. Topics include organizational efforts, discrimination in the work place, and the 1968 merger with the Amalgamated Meatcutters and Butcher Workmen. The interviews were conducted by Les Orear and Sue Davenport. Interviewees include Ralph Helstein, Les Orear, Joe Zabritsky, Herbert March, Sam Parks, Virgil Bankson, and Don James. Also in the collection is a summary abstract and similar content notes for part of the Helstein interview only.
