Biography/History

The Barber family is traced back to Gideon and Anna (Gillet) Barber who lived in Connecticut in the 18th century. The first Barbers to Wisconsin were Chester Peter and Cecilia (Johnson) Barber who settled first in Dodge County and then moved to Wautoma in Waushara County in the mid 19th century. For the Hamilton family, the earliest recorded ancestors are Thomas and Sarah (Westfall) Hamilton. They lived in both New York and Pennsylvania in the late 18th century, and Thomas served in the Revolutionary War. Thomas and Sarah (Armstrong) Hamilton were the first of the Hamilton family to settle in Wisconsin in Walworth County. The Hilditch family is traced to John and Elisa Hilditch who of Ireland with William Henry Hilditch being the first to move to Wisconsin in the late 19th century. He lived in Plainfield and was buried in Horicon in Dodge County. Hannah Walker and her husband are the earliest documented members of the Walker family, and they lived in England. The first of the family to settle in Wisconsin were James Poole Walker and his wife Joanna (Snell) who moved to Wautoma, in 1860 following their five sons, Curtis, Jabez, Phineas, Francis, and Llewellyn who had already emigrated to Wisconsin.
