Abstract:
Records documenting the formation and operation of the Greater Marshfield Community Health Plan (GMCHP), the first Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in Wisconsin, organized in 1971 in close association with the Marshfield Clinic. Partners in GMCHP's founding included Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield and the insurer Blue Cross Associated Hospital Services of Wisconsin. The records include reports, correspondence, memoranda, and meeting minutes compiled by Dr. Russell F. Lewis, one of the organizers of the GMCHP.
