Abstract:
Records of early admissions to the Wisconsin State Hospital for the Insane which later became known as the Mendota Mental Health Institute. Includes orders for commitments, reports by examining physicians, and judgments of insanity and commitment. Background information about the applicant includes age; birthplace; residence; marital status; occupation; nature of illness; patient disposition; prior treatment; habits; injuries; military service; and parents' nationality, religious beliefs, and education. A few miscellaneous records provide information on applicants who were not admitted to the state hospital.
