Correspondence and other records related to the regulation of public utilities and telephone companies in Wisconsin. The files include utility rate information, telephone toll tariffs, rate and tariff schedule changes, utility rules and regulations, and formal decisions by the Public Service Commission (PSC) regarding utility rates, rules, contracts and agreements. The bulk of the records document the regulation of utility operations by the Railroad Commission of Wisconsin beginning in 1907 through 1931, when the PSC assumed responsibility for utility regulation. There is a small quantity of records documenting utility regulation by the PSC from the period 1932-1974. The records document the process of assimilation of rural and local utilities by regional and statewide utility conglomerates.
