Abstract:
General correspondence and other documents relating to all phases of utility regulation and other functions assigned to the Commission and to its predecessors, the Railroad Commission and the Railroad Commissioner. The records include letters, memoranda, circulars, clippings, articles, reports, statistical data, orders, opinions, briefs, transcripts, exhibits and occasional blueprints, maps, and occasional photographs. The topics covered by the series parallel general trends in the agencies' histories and reflect all types of utilities regulated by them. Documented are diverse subjects such as improvement of navigable streams and lakes, rent control in Milwaukee, administration of the motor carrier tonmile tax, regulation of the issue of securities in Wisconsin, cooperation with the Public Works Administration, World War II fuel rationing, and the Wisconsin Environmental Protection Act.
