George R. Simkowski Papers, 1982-1991

Scope and Content Note

The Simkowski collection consists largely of draft scripts of motion pictures that have been annotated by Simkowski to indicate product placement possibilities; some titles are also documented by working files. Most films are represented by only a single script, although there are variant drafts for a few titles. The files are arranged as received from the donor; as a result, files containing variant drafts and working papers for the same production may not be grouped together in the Contents List below.

In response to a request from WCFTR, in 1991 Simkowski began to donate his working product placement files, which he had previously been discarding. These files include prop lists, correspondence, and notes. In addition, the first folder of the collection consists of a presentation on Prime Time Marketing services prepared for Gold Star computers that contains useful background information on PTM's activities with regard to specific films, as well as some biographical information about Simkowski. The collection also contains 19 videocassettes. These document product placements on television quiz programs such as Family Feud, The Match Game, and The Shopping Game. Also included is a product trailer for Body Rock and a promotional feature for Gremlins.
