Abstract:
Papers of John A. Gronouski, an economist, Wisconsin tax commissioner (1959-1963), postmaster general (1963-1965), ambassador to Poland (1965-1968), and Chairman of the Board for International Broadcasting. The postmaster general materials document labor-management relations, introduction of the ZIP code, departmental budgets and postal rates, and the issuance of commemorative stamps among other topics through correspondence, reports, speeches (some in recorded form), administrative files, and press material. Relating to Gronouski’s tenure as ambassador are unclassified correspondence, speeches, schedules, and files pertaining to diplomatic travel. The materials related to Gronouski’s work on the Board for International Broadcasting document aspects of the Board’s role and of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty through correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and other administrative materials. The collection also includes information on school desegregation in Milwaukee and Austin, photographs, and audio recordings.
