The papers of Charles Newton Brown, a nineteenth-century Madison, Wisconsin lawyer and court commissioner; of his wife, Nellie Melvina Williams Brown, a high school teacher, and owner of rental properties in central Madison and the University of Wisconsin campus area; and of their son, Irving Henry Brown, a university professor of romance languages, author, and nationally-known authority on gypsies.
