AFSCME. District Council 48 Records, 1967-1978

Scope and Content Note

The majority of the collection consists of umpire's rulings on grievances filed by Council members. The rulings are arranged by case number, 1 through 407. There are also umpire decisions which have no case number, which are arranged in alphabetical order by the person who filed the grievance. The umpire rulings provide the following information: who filed the grievance; the date of the hearing; who made appearances for the union and the employer; what the grievance was; background of the grievance; the union and employer positions; a discussion of the grievance; the umpire's ruling; the date of the ruling; and the name of the umpire. The grievances deal with a number of issues, including changes in working shifts, requirements to do more than is stated in the job description, and being denied time off when requested.

There are also contracts with various employers including departments of the state of Wisconsin and Milwaukee area local government units, 1969-1982.
