Abstract:

Papers of philanthropist Anita McCormick Blaine related to the operation of her household, where Mrs. Blaine employed as many as five to nine servants. The collection exhibits in great quantity and detail information on daily living; included are household accounts, orders, and shopping lists; assignment of duties and directions for carrying them out; reports on work accomplished and problems encountered; recommendations from both employer and staff; telephone messages coming into the house; and financial materials, including tax returns.
