Physical Description: 7.5 cubic feet (4 record center cartons, 2 archives boxes, 10 flat boxes, and 1 roll) and 97 photographs and 70 negatives (in 1 archives box) 
Scope and Content Note: Included are research files collected between about 1972-1979 and organized by county and by subject; signal location plans for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad Company; correspondence with other researchers with bulk dates between 1970-1980; and county maps and U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle sheets annotated with railroad information compiled by Kaysen. Also part of the collection is Kaysen's senior thesis, 1932-1933, concerning trackage in Madison; a copy of his book, A Statistical History of Wisconsin Railroads, 1847-1936; and photographs of railroad tunnels throughout the state and of railroad bridges over the Wisconsin, Kickapoo, and Mississippi rivers.

Physical Description: 97 prints and 70 negatives 
Scope and Content Note: Images of Wisconsin tunnels (including abandonments) mainly of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railroad (CMStP&P), C&NW, and IC railways made by Kaysen, May 1964 - May 1975. Also included is a negative and print of the CMStP&P tunnel at La Farge, summer 1929.
Arrangement of the Materials: Currently arranged by year (Mr. Kaysen's arrangement); most of the prints and negatives have identifying information written on them.

Physical Description: 1.4 cubic feet (2 archives boxes and 2 card file boxes) and 90 photographs 
Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1922-1979, including correspondence; Kaysen's lectures on roads and pavements; miscellaneous research material; a railroad map of Wisconsin and information about the other maps compiled by Kaysen; signal location plans of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad Company (CMStP&P) plus a map showing supervisor territories and memos regarding staff assignments; and photographs, 1929-1931, which include images of Kaysen and other members of the crew working on the paving of State Highway 75 (1931); railroad facilities of the CMStP&P; railroad bridges over the Mississippi, Wisconsin, and Kickapoo rivers; and views of various Wisconsin towns and cities, including Platteville, Prairie du Chien, La Farge, and Boulder Junction, among others.
