Abstract:
Files of the Superintendent of Schools, primarily documenting involvement in the process of changing boundaries of school districts, as well as participation in numerous inter-county committees responsible for determining boundary changes that crossed county lines. Included are minutes of public hearings, appeals, correspondence, orders, petitions, and other legal documents. The case files concern Mauston, Necedah, Wisconsin Dells, the towns of Lindina and Wonewoc, and other places. The inter-county files primarily consist of orders containing legal descriptions of alterations. These primarily refer to Jackson, Monroe, Sauk, and Vernon counties. Also notable are memoranda, detailed cost and assessment analyses, and a master plan for the Juneau consolidation program during the early 1950s.

Note:

This series supplements Series 697, providing information for several counties that is missing in the statewide files. The Juneau County case files are probably not comprehensive, but they provide good evidence both of the school consolidation process and local democracy that has value beyond the county context.
