Abstract:

For each parcel of property, tax rolls show taxpayer, land description, acreage, assessed valuation, amount of various taxes, total tax, and record of payment. Certain volumes include special features: in 1840/1841, a record of lands sold for unpaid taxes; in 1849, a delinquent list; in 1864-1865, an assessment for a special Civil War bounty; in 1880-1896, the number and value of livestock and other items of personal property. Volumes for 1886-1889 are incomplete. Beginning in 1940, records are retained only for every fifth year.

Portions of the early volumes are damaged.
