Myron P. Lotto Papers, 1964-1973

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of three series: Brown County Supervisor, State Senator-Legislative Issues and Speeches. Most materials pertain to Lotto's legislative service from 1969-1972. The BROWN COUNTY SUPERVISOR series includes files relating to Lotto's stand on bridge construction in the county and annual reports and zoning ordinances for the towns of De Pere and Glenmore.

The STATE SENATOR-LEGISLATIVE ISSUES series contains Lotto's correspondence, reference material, and copies of Assembly and Senate bills and amendments collected during his legislative service. Materials are organized according to subject or organization involved, and filed alphabetically. Within the series are both general alphabetical files and files on particular subjects. Among the special files are Bingo, detailing Lotto's efforts to liberalize laws against bingo; Consumer Credit Legislation, including correspondence and memoranda from organizations affected by A.B. 1057-A; Curative Workshop of Green Bay, referring to legislation for the handicapped; Ertl Letters, consisting of correspondence from the alderman of the 10th Ward, Milwaukee, regarding legislation affecting the city; and Greenbelts, detailing the positions of Lotto and concerned groups regarding rural land-use policies, and the establishment of wetland and greenbelt areas. Other special files of note are Greiling Farms, Inc., concerning possible exceptions to minimum wage laws in case of hand harvest laborers; Housing and Urban Development, concerning issues such as federal aid, rural development, and classification of Brown County land for HUD standards; Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules, containing material relating to public hearings on credit life insurance regulations and Department of Agriculture rules on comparative pricing; Republican Party, Political Material, which includes candidate correspondence, speaking engagement letters, and redistricting material; and The Spirit, which describes Lotto's involvement with this diocesan newspaper and other church affairs.

The SPEECHES file contains notes and finished copies of speeches given by Lotto both as Brown County supervisor and as a state legislator.
