Abstract:

Files containing information compiled by the coroner about deaths occurring in Dane County. This series does not include unsolved homicides, and files from 1920 and later do not include any homicides. Each case is summarized in a coroner report which provides both pertinent information about the deceased and findings as to cause and date of death. Files on traffic deaths typically include traffic reports filed by the police. Files on deaths involving negligence, abuse, or foul-play typically include autopsy reports and inquest transcripts. Files on suicides include copies of suicide notes where applicable. In addition, news clippings and police photographs are present in some files.
