Miscellaneous records of the Crawford County Register of Deeds. The majority of this series
refers to a project, circa 1905, to trace county land titles to their origins, apparently in
an attempt to check the accuracy of the title indexes and to bring them into conformity with
standard practice. This section of the series is organized by town or township and traces
the land back to the original French lots or entry. The notes and work plans associated with
this project are also part of this series. Also included are territorial deeds and
mortgages, some naming Joseph Brisbois, James Lockwood, and H. L. Dousman; a hand drawn plat
map; records relating to property taxes and assessments, tax exempt property, swamp land
improvement, and preemption; the 1881 Articles of Association for Sacred Heart College in
Prairie du Chien; and miscellaneous other legal documents.
There is a restriction on access to this material; see the Administrative/Restriction Information
portion of this finding aid for details.
