Abstract:
Tape-recorded interviews conducted by Michael Gordon with seven Wisconsin farmers, two rural ministers, and the director of the Wisconsin Rural Development Center about the financial and social crisis sweeping through rural America in the mid-1980s, and about the growing sustainable agriculture movement. Also includes abstracts. In addition, there are several non-abstracted actuality recordings of related events such as farm and equipment sales, farm field tests, a demonstration protesting the use of bovine growth hormone in dairy herds, and part of the Sustainable Agriculture Conference held in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, in February 1987. Also present is a recording of a one-hour radio documentary produced by Gordon using this material which aired on WORT-FM (Madison, Wisconsin) and other stations in 1987.
